Kiribati Union of Teachers
Objectives
The union main objectives are to enhance the standard of education of the children of the Republic of Kiribati and as a same time protect and promote the status and welfare of its members. In addition, it will develop harmonious relations among education bodies and institutions with mutual interest, co-operation and general welfare for all without distinction as to sex or religion and to play its role representative organization of teachers in all matters pertaining to the welfare of its members, in dealings with the government, the Education and Labor Ministries and other relevant authorities, and to advise on all questions affecting the corresponding part to the public service in particular, and on education questions in general. It will also promote sympathy and goodwill and to establish conditions of justice and respect for the obligations and privileges arising from contracts and terms of service between the authorities on one hand and the teachers on the other. Furthermore, the organization will foster and promote social and educational advancement and to safeguard the rights and privileges of its members.
It will organize, manage and control, in co-operation with the authority’s extra-curricular activities such as refresher courses for teachers, education days for schools and interschool sports. It will be responsible to arrange, establish and maintain, control or manage schemes or funds for the education benefits of its members and to make representations on all matters relating to or affecting the rights, interests and welfare of its members, and to nominate elect or appoint representatives and delegates for and behalf of the KUT for all or any of the objects or purposes provided herein. The KUT will do all such sets and things as may be incidental and conductive to the fulfillment of all or any of the objects or purposes of the KUT, represent the members of the KUT at Pacific Regional Organization of teachers and at any other International Organization of teachers and to maintain friendly relations and where appropriate, applications with them. Last but not least, the organization will continue work for the establishment of a KUT National Teachers’ Centre, as an educational, cultural and social meeting place for teachers of Kiribati and of the Pacific Region.
